Announcing New Skits!

I’m excited to announce the addition of new, free downloadable skits to the website! We have added (1) one-act skit, (2) serial skits and (2) skit series. These are some of my new favorites, and there are more to come. Have you considered using skits? Try something new! You can do a skit! Check out other blogs on the topic on our website.

“Out with the Old” is a one-act skit about sanctification–putting off the old and putting on the new. Kelly has moved to a new city and a new job. As she unpacks, she realizes that there are things that she needs to get rid of that are no longer of any benefit to her.

“Your Day in Court” is skit series of four short skits examining salvation from a legal setting. Who is our righteous Judge? Who is our accuser (the prosecutor)? What are the charges and evidence against us? Do we deserve the death penalty? How did Jesus secure our pardon and grant us freedom?

“StormProofers, Unlimited” is a skit series consisting of three short skits. Severe weather is predicted, and heavy damage could result. Stormproofers, Unlimited to the rescue! They have the advice and products to help Kelly to have a godly perspective in the midst of the storm, and to avoid permanent damage from the storm.

“The Quest” is a three-act serial skit used at our retreat entitled “Surefooted.” In this skit, three women vie for the title of “Miss Sportz World” by completing a quest. Each woman follows a path set out for her where she will encounter challenges and trials, as well as an enemy. Will they finish strong? Who will win?

“Trusting 101” is a four-act serial skit used at our retreat entitled “In All Your Ways.” In this skit, Sybil attends a continuing education class “Trusting 101.” She is presented with three case studies, and as she considers each one, her Mind, her Will, her Emotions and her Spirit all weigh in as she learns about trusting God in all situations.

Check out these new skits–I pray you can use them!

That To-Do List

to do horizontalThis is a common theme on this website, I know.  But the issue constantly comes up in my life, so I feel that it is appropriate to discuss.  Every  ministry leader I know is very busy and wears many hats. Often women’s ministry is not the only place you serve in the church, not to mention outside areas of responsibility.  We are to do “everything as unto the Lord” (Colossians 3:23) and “for His glory” (I Corinthians 10:31)….but sometimes ministry can just feel like more items to put on a never-ending to-do list.

When we get to that place, we need to step back and regain our focus.  Ministry is a blessing and a privilege — not a burden. Yes, flyers need to be made, we need to prepare for studies, we need to plan events, and there are a multitude of other things that need our attention.  BUT God has put souls in our care, and those souls are of great value to Him.  Ministry is people, and not just a list of tasks to be accomplished.  People can not be checked off our list so easily.  People want to talk; people have needs; people have problems that don’t have an easy or convenient solution;  people need prayer; people need our time and attention.

How can we regain our focus?  The first thing is to go to God and confess our preoccupation with “tasks,” and ask for His help in determining our priorities.  We need to pray for the people in our care, and pray that God would give us His heart for them. We need to ask God to be the Lord of our to-do lists!

Have You Visited the Website Recently?

Has it been awhile since you visited www.retreatinabag.net? I thought so!  There are changes!  My wonderful and tech-savvy son made the time to help me out and make the site more user-friendly. Pages have been updated and resources should be easier to find.  In addition, I’ve been busy adding new content.

In “Free Resources” I have added a new graphic (“A Fruitful Garden”) and new skits, including “A Fruitful Garden” series, “Spring Cleaning” (one-act) and “Finding Your Way” (one-act). Free resources are available for you to download and use at any time.

In “Premium Resources” there have been some exciting updates and changes.  We have updated the cover of one of the Retreat-in-a-Bag books (“Disciplesheep”), added a graphic to the “Hidden Riches” Retreat Guide, and  added a brand new Retreat Guide entitled “Wonders in the Deep.”  What is the difference between the books and the guides?  The three Retreat-in-a-Bag books were originally intended to include as much information as possible about carrying out a retreat theme in one place (thus the name); they include all sorts of general information in addition to all of the theme-specific resources and creative suggestions. As the website has been up an running now for more than a couple years, much of the general information found in the books can be found on the website.  So the Retreat Guides have been shortened to include only theme-specific resources and creative suggestions.  I have to add that each of the books and guides represents some of our favorite retreat themes and skits!
