Welcome to Retreat-in-a-Bag.net!

Welcome to Retreat-in-a-Bag.net! We want to especially welcome all of our new subscribers who have joined us in the past few months. We’re glad you found us! I hope you find us to be a valuable resource for retreats, skits and Bible studies. Our vision for this website from the very beginning was to provide resources for women’s groups, smaller churches and home groups.

As you explore the website, you will note that we are no longer limited to only retreat content. Our website includes years’ of blogs on retreat/event planning, arranged by topic. Look under “blog” for the topics.

We have a number of free and downloadable skits. These range in length from shorter one-act skits to longer “serial” skits of two to four acts. These skits present Biblical truth in a humorous and often exaggerated format, perfect for use with your women’s event or retreat. While most are written with a specific theme in mind, many can be adapted for any setting–Bible studies, women’s teas and events, children’s events, retreats and event mission trips.

We have written Bible studies over the past 25 years used in our women’s ministry that we have now made available for purchase. We have three “types” of studies: (1) In-depth verse-by-verse studies that we typically use during our semesters (Sept-Nov and Jan-May); (2) In-Depth topical studies; (3) Short topical studies that we use during the less structured summer months.

As you browse these resources, you can see the length of each study and determine what best suits your group. All are written to engage women with varying levels of Bible study expertise.

We also have premium themed retreat/event resources available. These can be used for retreats, special events or simply to enhance your regular Bible study with fun and meaningful application.

You may have noticed that we do not post regular blogs anymore. However, during the month of August, we will be introducing you to some of our newest content. You can expect to receive a short email about twice a week during this month.

Let us know if you have any questions!

Have You Visited the Website Recently?

Has it been awhile since you visited www.retreatinabag.net? I thought so!  There are changes!  My wonderful and tech-savvy son made the time to help me out and make the site more user-friendly. Pages have been updated and resources should be easier to find.  In addition, I’ve been busy adding new content.

In “Free Resources” I have added a new graphic (“A Fruitful Garden”) and new skits, including “A Fruitful Garden” series, “Spring Cleaning” (one-act) and “Finding Your Way” (one-act). Free resources are available for you to download and use at any time.

In “Premium Resources” there have been some exciting updates and changes.  We have updated the cover of one of the Retreat-in-a-Bag books (“Disciplesheep”), added a graphic to the “Hidden Riches” Retreat Guide, and  added a brand new Retreat Guide entitled “Wonders in the Deep.”  What is the difference between the books and the guides?  The three Retreat-in-a-Bag books were originally intended to include as much information as possible about carrying out a retreat theme in one place (thus the name); they include all sorts of general information in addition to all of the theme-specific resources and creative suggestions. As the website has been up an running now for more than a couple years, much of the general information found in the books can be found on the website.  So the Retreat Guides have been shortened to include only theme-specific resources and creative suggestions.  I have to add that each of the books and guides represents some of our favorite retreat themes and skits!

What’s New?

What's new?New and exciting things have been happening at Retreat-in-a-Bag!

I am most excited to announce our new downloadable Retreat Guide.  This is the first of (hopefully) many to come. This Retreat Guide gives you resources specific to the theme “Hidden Riches,” including theme verse, ideas and links to decorations we used, color photos, teaching sessions outline, quiet time study and skit (reproducible theme graphics are not provided).  I have to say that our recent retreat with this theme was one of our sweetest retreats ever, as we compared our Christian life to a mining expedition where we search for hidden  treasures. And the greatest treasure of all is to know the Lord!

In addition, our Retreat-in-a-Bag book series, consisting of three books, is now downloadable. Up until now, they have only been available for purchase as a hard copy.  Now you can get what you need instantly from the Retreat-in-a-Bag website. Compared to the Retreat Guide just mentioned, each of these books covers general information for those planning a retreat from start to finish, but they include theme-related resources as well (graphic, quiet time, skit).

We have been adding content to our free downloadables – with new skits, quiet time studies and even a new downloadable form or two.  So if you haven’t been to the website for a while, it may be worth your time to take a gander, especially if you are planning a retreat for 2015!

New Skits

3093229_300If you haven’t been to the website recently, it might be worth your while.  I added three new skits this week.  All three were added as part of the “Confronting Your Giants” skit series.  However, I also listed one of those as a one-act skit.  It is entitled “Good Intentions.”  While it does deal with the “giant” of neglecting prayer and the Word, it is a powerful skit that could pretty much be used any time because it deals with our good intentions to have a daily quiet time, and the excuses we make.  It is a short, powerful skit that can stand alone in just about any setting. Take a look at this skit–you’ll find it here.

I’M BAAAAAACK!

im-back1

Greetings to all subscribers to the retreatinabag.net website, old and new!  It has been about six weeks since my last blog.  Normally, my goal is to post something every Wednesday, but….

What’s my excuse?  Life happens.  In the last month, I moved an elderly relative from independent living to assisted living, with all the accompanying issues that are involved with a difficult transition like that.  Our women hosted our spring event, a women’s dessert (which I’m eager to tell you about).  Also, we finished our spring women’s study and began preparing for our summer event.  Weddings, baby showers and graduations…I could go on…but you get the picture.  Writing a blog post once a week got put on the back burner.

But I’m prepared (and excited) to get back in the swing of things, so look for a post in your inbox next Wednesday.   See you then.
