How Do You Satisfy Your Spiritual Appetite?

“Desire the sincere milk of the Word that you may grow thereby…”  The Bible says that to grow spiritually, we must be nourished by God’s Word.  What are your “eating habits” when it comes to God’s Word?

  • Are you a snacker–just devouring tasty morsels now and then?
  • Are you a binge eater–eating so much at one time that you don’t really taste it?
  • Do you fast several days a week–too busy to spend time in the Word at all on some days?
  • Are you a low carb, high fiber eater?  In other words, do you spend a lot of time in one area of God’s Word and avoid other areas?
  • Does your diet consist mainly of desserts–mainly spending your time in those areas of scripture which are sweet to the taste?
  • Are you an entertainer–spending time in God’s Word only when preparing for other activitiess?
  • Are you a balanced and healthy eater–regularly spending time in God’s word, and dividing your time between Old and New Testament?

What Women Do for One Another

God uses women in the body of Christ to minister to other women–to love, affirm and encourage one another. Those are precious relationships.  God gives us a beautiful picture of this in Scripture in the story of Mary, the mother of Jesus and Elizabeth, the mother of John the Baptist.

Both of these moms-to-be were carrying a child whose divine purpose had been revealed by an angel–a unique experience, to say the least.  Being in somewhat similar circumstances, they understood and affirmed what the other was experiencing.  They rejoiced in God together and strengthened one another.  The time they spent together was a gift from God, who knew a woman’s need to share with another woman.

That’s what women do for each other. We support one another and help each other become better, godlier women.  That’s why we need to connect with one another.  God may surprise you with the gift of another woman with whom you can share your heart and receive support and encouragement.  It is what women’s ministry is all about.

Aaron and Hur Revisited

When I think of being an assistant to your leader, I think of Aaron and Hur, two men who came to the side of Moses in Exodus 17:8-13.  We have discussed their roles as Moses’ assistants in previous blogs.

It is important to note that Aaron and Hur were not Moses’ only assistants.  While they accompanied Moses to his post at the top of the hill, worked closely by his side….another assistant was down on the field in the heat of the battle.  Joshua was fighting, leading the troops as Moses had commanded.  While Aaron and Hur were proving themselves indispensable to Moses on the top of the hill, Joshua was proving himself a leader on the battlefield.

Was one assistant more important than another?  Were Aaron and Hur the preferred ones, chosen to accompany Moses and be close to his side?  The truth is, the “hero” of the story is God…the power of God won that battle with Amalek.  Moses, Aaron, Hur, Joshua and a group of unnamed soldiers were used by God, working together according to their individual gifts and callings, and the mission was accomplished.

Imitate Me!

People use many methods to broadcast their message to the world.  Some wear a button or adhere a bumper sticker to their car.  Others wear a message emblazend across their t-shirt.  Now we even see messages tatooed on bodies.  What message would you like to broadcast?

I am amazed at the boldness of Paul’s statement in I Corinthians 11:1 which says “Imitate me, just as I also [imitate] Christ.”  Would I wear a T-shirt with that statement?  Could I say that?  Imagine a button proclaiming “Do what I do, because I am following Jesus!”  Could I, even on my best day, wear that button?  Whew!  I think it would be hard to wear that button, since I know my attitudes, weaknesses and failures.  Or maybe wearing that button would motivate me, being a reminder that there are always those who are watching my example.

If people imitated you, would the world see Jesus?

Be an Ambassador!

“Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.”

In II Corinthians 5:20 Paul says that we are to be ambassadors for Christ.  .  What is an ambassador?  An ambassador lives and serves in a country that is not his home.  An ambassador is an official messenger who speaks on behalf of his government or sovereign.  An ambassador is sent to build bridges of communication between his home country and those he serves.

While Paul is not speaking specifically to leaders, those of us within the women’s leadership should take this calling seriously.  As His ambassador, are we speaking His words, a living a life representative of His kingdom? Are we honest in our relationships, loving with His agape love?  Are we building bridges of communication between God and those we serve?
